Working remotely, not being in the same office, or even time-zone, as your colleagues, forces you to rely on many tools to communicate, collaborate, manage, account and track.
We use quite a complicated set of mainly web-based tools to do this, but it’s worth it, because it allows myself and my team to stay remote and flexible. And the last thing we want is to go back to the daily commute!
Here is the officeless infrastructure we use:
- Communications
- Sales & CRM
- Project management
- Blogging
- Accounts, Bookkeeping & Billing
- Marketing
- Hosting
It’s interesting to note how important web-based tools are to living the work-from-home dream.

Yep, totally agree. Web-based tools rule! It’s amasing how many of them you use though. We manage to run the business with Gmail, Skype, Wrike, Wordpress and Less Accounting. Wrike.com is my fave. It works real nicely with Gmail. We create and update tasks though emails. Love it!
Thanks, haven’t heard of Wrike, I’ll check it out…
Another invoicing option is Time59 (www.time59.com). It’s targeted at solo professionals and is a great solution if you don’t need (or want to pay for) the multi-user capability of Freshbooks (great product by the way). Bottom line: If you are solo and bill by the hour it is definitely worth a look. The first 30 days are free.
Great list! I was glad to see Freshbooks on there, as we are proud to say that one of the features of our own recently-launched online accounting application is integration with Freshbooks. If you are interested in quick, easy bookkeeping you can do yourself, check us out! (www.iacez.com) (As of now, you can still try it for free!!)
