If you’ve just experienced problems with the sound not working from the internal speaker of your Macbook, and you have a red light being emitted from the headphone jack then this may be well be the problem and solution to fix it.

This particular problem probably occurred by the small contacts inside of the headphone jack being disturbed in some manor, for example plugging in your headphones with a bent mini jack or being slightly to rough in general when plugging it in.

Solution: wiggle the mini jack inside the port and try putting it in and out a few times until the red light disappears. This worked for me.
