Most social networks offer you the opportunity to syndicate blog content with them. So that every time you write a new post it will appear in your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn feeds.

This a good way to get more eyeballs on your content and more traffic to your site. It will not directly improve your SEO score for back-links as most of these social networks use the nofollow link attribute.

Here’s how you do it:

Facebook

The are several points of access for blogs in Facebook, but the most suitable one is in the Notes application.

Click here to load up the Notes App

Click My Notes

Click Import a Blog

You then need to input your blogs RSS feed URL

Facebook then imports all of your recent blog posts, and everytime you write new one they will appear in your news feed.

Twitter

Again, lots of options for syndicating blog content to Twitter. We use a Worpress plugin called Twitpress by Thomes Purnell. It’s very easy to install and set-up. There are undoubtebly other plugins out there for other types of blog software.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has several blogging applications that are very easy to use. Click here to access the WordPress app on LinkedIn

I like the idea of having one single log-in for multiple websites, it would make a life a lot easier. So, to hell with the consequences.

I also hope that Facebook win the single log-in war that is currently raging between themselves, Microsoft, MySpace, Google and OpenID. This is because I think Facebook understand the social scene in a more profound way than the competition. If for example; Google or Microsoft win the the ID war their ID products will almost certainly be reststrictive or full of bugs.

Initially, we saw some great traffic from our Facebook ads, but then out-of-the-blue the traffic stopped:

Of course, we emailed Facebook for an explanation, and of course, Facebook provided us with an unsatisfactory and somewhat greedy answer:

Please note that you are not guaranteed any number of clicks or impressions. For any given ad unit, we select the best ad to run based on the cost per click or cost per thousand impressions and ad performance. Therefore, if you are not receiving as many clicks or impressions as you would like, we suggest increasing your maximum cost per click or maximum CPM. We also suggest making sure your ad is as relevant as possible by targeting your ad to the most appropriate audience. Your ad is more likely to perform better and continue running successfully if it is being displayed to the users who are likely to be the most interested in your ad and click on your ad.

Considering the fact the that we had made no changes to our ads, either the Facebook PPC advertising marketplace got dramatically more competitive on Feb 27th, or Facebook are trying to squeeze more money out of us.

Feeling sporting, we took Facebook’s advice a few days later and upped our bids to above their suggested bid price, unfortunately this did not provide our ads with anymore impressions.

There’s a lot of great, engaged and relevant traffic on Facebook, and their demographic targeting is probably the most advanced of any PPC advertising product out there; however, the kinds of fluctuations outlined above make their system incredibly hard to work with.
